About the trek

Prabalmachi in Western Ghats is one of the lesser taken treks around Mumbai, Maharashtra, though the place has regularly been spotted in magazines and other websites.

50.5 kilometres away from Mumbai, Prabalmachi camping is among the bucket list of many travel freaks. This one and a half hour to two hour long trek is an easy and a perfect trek for beginners that takes you up to the Prabalmachi Fort.

The place falls between Panvel and Matheran, at Raigad district, Maharashtra. With good connectivity from Mumbai and Pune, the base camp is easily accessible and so is the trek. The trek is an easy weekend getaway for the Mumbaikars. 

The mighty Prabalmachi fort stands still at an elevation of 2,300ft surrounded by the lush green stretch. The panoramic view of Morbe Dam, Irshalgad, Panvel city, Matheran, Karnal fort etc from the utmost point.

This small gem hiding in the hills, the Prabalmachi, is also one major attraction of the base of the trek. It is also the base Village to the two markable treks of Prabalgad fort and Kalavantin fort.

The fort has not much remnants of its glory, but some historic facts state that it was built by the Bahmani Sultanate to keep a watch on other nearby forts and North Konkan areas. The fort was previously known as Muranjan. After being taken over by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it was renamed to Prabalmachi.

The two day and one night trek is everything one needs to soothe the soul and relax the mind after some really hettick schedule. The greenery and rocky trails will definitely take you away from the everyday routine and leave you with a one of its kind of experience.

The trek is often most opted during pre monsoon and monsoon due to one of the major factor that is Fireflies. The eternal beauty of swarm of fireflies is one moment that surely remains throughout the life for those who are fortunate enough to witness this heart warming scene.

Nearest Railway station

Panvel is the nearest railway station. Any local train to panvel can take you here. 

Thakurwadi, the base camp of the trek is a 2 hour drive away from the station.

Important things to carry along

  • I’D card
  • Water bottle (maximum the capacity, the better it is) 
  • Snacks and quickes 
  • Torch (with spare batteries)
  • Camera ( to capture your moments and beauty of nature)
  • Extra clothes
  • Raincoat, umbrella etc
  • Last but not the least, some common medicines.

Instructions

  • First and the foremost important instruction is not to any precious ornaments, gold or equals while on trek.
  • Second, any sort of alcohol consumption or illegal stuff are prohibited.
  • Though trek is all about having fun and relaxing but incase you’re on any medication or chronic conditions, it is advised to consult doctor before taking the trek and carry your medicines along.
  • Shoes are one major player of trekking. Carry the best pair of comfortable sports shoes.
  • Following the leader/ guide is the key to safe trekking while enjoying it to the fullest.
  • Carry all the important things mentioned above and everything you feel important for you.
