Let’s face it – most people are not ready to go in for the phrase: Avoid Bankruptcy. Not only have I been married to a top local man, but I have been a huge fan of horror movies on themoviesflix (also called monster movies) for years. In my experience, as a genre follower, here are my top ten monsters of all time!
10. Kraken (1981)
Since the 1981 Clash of the Titans, this is a thought-provoking creature. Although Kraken is a mythical creature, a version of the film that everyone remembers. Who can forget the last episode of the original Clash of the Titans where Kraken comes to Andromeda? (Why he was looking for her is not clear to me. Did he plan to eat her? Invite her to go swimming? In horror movies and fantasies. The image of Perseus turning Kraken into a stone is ancient and so is this beast with many weapons in the view of the author.
9. Creature From Black Lagoon (all versions)
There have been many movies about awesome sea creatures, but Creature From the Black Lagoon is still the best. (Sorry, Jaws!) Released in 1954, featuring a monster-like gill-man found on a voyage to the Amazon. Like many famous silver screen monsters on the moviesflix, the creature gave birth to succession. The first creation of the film Black Lagoon was re-released in 2011, according to the IMDB website.
8. Mother (Boris Karloff)
Boris Karloff appears for the first time on our list! The Mummy, directed by Karl Freund, a horror 1932 film from Universal Studios. Karloff rose to prominence as a renewed Egyptian priest named Imhotep. While the movie on moviesflix is not a death knell, it is one of the oldest monuments in our society. When people think of corpses, they often think of Karloff coming out of the sarcophagus wearing bandages. Mummy was slightly re-enacted in Mummy’s Hand (1940) but it was Karloff’s version that started Mummy’s films.
7. Michael Myers (all versions)
Michael Myers was the inventor of the slasher. He first appeared on Halloween 1978 as a young boy killing his older sister, and then returned home years later to kill again. His battles with Jamie Lee Curtis in the first two Halloween movies are perfect examples of how it should work to chase horror movies. Although, I think the battles of Michael and Donald Pleasence (who played Dr. Loomis) are the best parts of Halloween films. The only negative aspects of Halloween movies to me are the problems of continuity.
6. Dracula (Bela Lugosi)
Bela Lugosi was a Hungarian actress, best known for starring Count Dracula in the Broadway drama and Universal Studios Dracula films, too. The ancient Dracula on movieflix now that made Lugosi a star came out in 1931. Although the movie is slow and not as exciting as other Universal classics, like the Frankenstein films, Lugosi has made the film work. No matter how many vampire films are made, too, this one is the most memorable. Ask anyone who is Dracula and immediately think of Dracula of Bela. His Dracula is an icon.
5. Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund)
Robert Englund is best known for starring serial killer Freddy Krueger in Nightmare in the Elm Street film series. According to Wikipedia, he received a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for A Nightmare at Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors in 1987 and A Nightmare for Elm Street 4: The Dream Master in 1988. I’m not surprised. He was as good as Freddy. New Freddy can’t hold a candle or a frustrating red jersey, and head for England. He approached and played Freddy with a mixture of shock and humor. His ridicule and his victims are a myth.
4. Wolfman (Little Lon Chaney.)
“Even a person pure in heart and praying at night may be a wolf when the wolf blooms and the autumn moon shines.” Speaking of was wolves, there is no one better than Lon Chaney’s Wolfman in the 1941 Universal Studios movie flix. From the iconic makeup to the gypsy curse, it’s Chaney’s Wolfman community that knows better, and for good reason – a fun film that stands for a long time.
3. Inunu KaFrankenstein (Boris Karloff)
Should I really write that Boris Karloff’s portrayal of the Frankenstein Monster is an old cinema creature? Thunderstorms, glittering laboratory equipment, the hand of a huge moving beast on the movies flix — these are images that we all have fixed on our minds. There is no better version of the Frankenstein Monster version than the Karloff version from the old 1931 horror film.
2. Leatherface (all versions)
Leatherface is the main killer in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror film series. He wears masks made of leather for his victims (which is where the name Leatherface comes from) and is a film character who often carries a saw. Not only is Leatherface one of the first slasher-type criminals but he’s terribly scared! While I think all versions of Leatherface are very intimidating, the leading actors in Leatherface.
1. Jason Voorhees (all versions)
Sure, Kane Hodder played Jason more than any other character, but I can’t pick one Jason better than another. Each character who played the immortal slasher Jason Voorhees has brought something new to the role. Jason Voorhees has been the killer since Friday’s 13th series. He first appeared on Friday the 13th (1980); though, he was not the main villain in the first movie.
